Umsobomvu Youth Fund (UYF) was established in January 2001 by the South African Government in order to give young entrepreneurs training, skills development and even access to finance to realise their business ideas. This initiative facilitates and promotes job creation and skills development among young South Africans aged 18 to 35.

Vouchers are used to purchase business support services from approved service providers such as the West Coast Business Development Centre. Participation is extremely affordable. Those who take part in the Umsobomvu Voucher Programme only need to contribute 1% of the total value of the voucher.

Umsobomvu attempts to stimulate initiatives in one of the following targetted growth orientated sectors:

Tourism
Information, communication and technology
Manufacturing
Construction
Agro-processing

Services offered by the WCBDC include:

Business Plan Development
Business Process Re-engineering
Marketing Plans
Market Brokerage
Accounting and Bookkeeping
Due Diligence
Product Development
Contract Drafting
Tender Advice

Applicants should reside within the geographical area of the WCBDC and should have clear and realistic goals and vision about the business into which they wish to venture. Applicants should display relevant technical or managerial training, experience or passion in the selected area of business.
